For over two decades, Sharon Wells Mathematics has led the way to math success by providing coherent, rigorous, standard-aligned mathematic instruction in thousands of classrooms throughout Texas. At Sharon Wells Mathematics, our goal is to provide the resources and support needed so classroom teachers feel empowered, prepared and confident in their approach to teaching mathematics. We do this through engaging and strategic staff developing training sessions that encompass hands-on learning; cooperative and engaging activities, and best practice approaches to mathematic instruction. All applicants must have extensive experience in teaching the Sharon Wells Program or a solid background in teaching and training mathematics in Texas.
The consultant serves as the onsite representative for Sharon Wells Mathematics in presenting engaging staff development training for teachers in order to facilitate the fidelity of implementing the program successfully in Texas classrooms. The consultant is expected to focus on the “HOW” to use our hands-on approach to teach the Texas curriculum - (TEKS) so all participants are engaged and involved in the learning process in every workshop conducted, grades 2 – 5. This approach coupled with the modeling of best practices and proper implementation of our rigorous and in-depth instruction brings about meaningful and effective ways to teach math in classrooms throughout Texas.
Prepare and deliver engaging staff development workshops that address the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), where teachers are active participants in the learning process on how to implement the Sharon Wells activities and lessons as outlined in the program.
Model quality math lessons for teachers and provide support to enhance the delivery of instruction that supports the pedagogy of the Sharon Wells Program. All applicants must have taught at the elementary level (preferably STAAR grades) and used or facilitated the Sharon Wells Math program successfully for at least a minimum of 5 years.
The ability to demonstrate strong leadership qualities needed to properly facilitate staff development sessions and provide feedback to assist educators in implementing the program effectively. Educational consultants must be very familiar with Texas State Assessments, new state mandates, math instructional strategies and the elementary mathematics TEKS.
Maintain the integrity of the program by demonstrating a strong mathematics foundation; facilitating a conceptual based approach to teaching (but specifically using SW program strategies), and engaging classroom learners.
Demonstrate professionalism and innovation to learn independently, conduct research to stay abreast of state and federal requirements, as well as best practices for delivering effective staff development training sessions.
PLEASE read all the qualifications carefully – You must have worked with the Sharon Wells Mathematics program or a program similar in nature with the foundation being conceptual based “hands on approach” to learning pedagogy in order to appy.
Minimum of ten years teaching experience, with an expertise in mathematics (successfully using the Sharon Wells program a must – please be specific as to which grade levels were taught). Experience on STAAR grades a plus.
Administrative experience with extensive knowledge in conceptual learning and effective math instruction. (We must show them how to use the math, NOT tell them!)
Extensive experience facilitating or conducting professional development trainings to other educators, including teachers and administrators.
Compensation: Contracted Services-Pay (starting at $500 daily rate). Consultants are paid by number of days contracted, plus reimbursement for allotted expenses. Health insurance available (if applicable).

Sharon Wells Curriculum Editors
All Sharon Wells’ materials are revised each year and changed as necessary to follow the Texas standards. Each time the curriculum is changed every six weeks, it must be thoroughly edited by a team of editors.
Editors review, plan, and revise content for publication in grades 2nd – 5th.
- Must exhibit a strong command of English grammar, syntax, reading, writing, sentence structure, as well as mathematics pedagogy.
- Fluency in Spanish reading and writing is a plus.
- Applies the fundamental concepts of editing using correct symbols, consistency and applies content-area knowledge for all editorial tasks.
- Problem solves to give appropriate suggestions when applicable and/or makes accurate corrections as needed.
- Provides clear and concise feedback in spoken and written forms.
- Confers with writers and editors regarding changes made to submitted content to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of the materials.
- Revises all mathematical content for accuracy in a concise and organized manner.
- Ensures content meets program format and specifications.
- Applies knowledge of state standards to determine content accuracy.
